30th Anniversary of the Faculty of Law of Matej Bel University, with the participation of the President of the Judicial Council
Marcela Kosová, the President of the Judicial Council, accepted the invitation of the Dean of the Faculty of Law of Matej Bel University, Adrián Vaško, to attend on October 13, 2025, the celebrations marking the 30th anniversary of the faculty’s founding. In addition to providing higher education through accredited study programs at all three levels, the faculty also prepares many future judges for their profession.
The celebration was attended by numerous distinguished guests, including the President of the Slovak Republic, Peter Pellegrini, the Prosecutor General of the Slovak Republic, Maroš Žilinka, and the President of the Supreme Court of the Czech Republic, Petr Angyalossy.
The Faculty of Law of Matej Bel University in Banská Bystrica was established in 1995. The government approved the establishment of the Faculty of Law of Matej Bel University on April 18, 1995. The proposal to establish the Faculty of Law was submitted to the Academic Senate by the Rector of Matej Bel University on May 11, 1995. The Academic Senate adopted a resolution to establish the Faculty of Law with its seat in Banská Bystrica, and on May 15, 1995, the Rector issued the founding charter officially creating the faculty, which was permanently located in the Matej Bel University building on Komenského Street. The academic officials organized and carried out the first entrance examinations, and in the first academic year, 100 students were admitted to full-time study.
“It was an honour for me to accept the invitation and attend this ceremonial event. The Judicial Council is closely connected to the Faculty of Law of Matej Bel University, also through its members. Peter Šamko was not only among the one hundred students admitted in the first academic year of the faculty’s existence but also among its first graduates, and Jaroslav Klátik is a professor and head of the Department of Criminal Law at the Faculty of Law,” said Marcela Kosová.
