A farewell ceremony for judges emeriti
On Friday, November 28, 2025, President of the Slovak Republic Peter Pellegrini and President of the Judicial Council of the Slovak Republic Marcela Kosová received twenty-six emeritus judges at the Presidential Palace. They expressed their gratitude for their long service in the judiciary and their personal contribution to building an independent judicial system. This was the second year of the event organized to thank retiring judges.
Judges who were ending their term of office received a letter of appreciation from the President of the Slovak Republic. The President of the Judicial Council of the Slovak Republic presented them with a plaque of appreciation from the Judicial Council.
“I am very pleased that so many judges accepted the invitation to this ceremonial event, allowing both the President and me to acknowledge their demanding work and express our gratitude for all the years they have worn the judicial robe," stated Marcela Kosová.
“I worked in the judiciary for forty-three years, always within the district of the Regional Court in Nitra. We all greatly appreciate this meeting and feel honored that the President received us just as he did when we were appointed to our positions. This is not only my impression, but also that of my colleagues," said emeritus judge Lýdia Gálisová.
“I am very glad that the idea of establishing this tradition came to the mind of the President of the Judicial Council. I see our work as a service, and although many of us have carried it out for decades, we have never received any formal recognition. This event is very dignified, with all the important representatives of the judiciary present, and above all, the President himself. It´s a beautiful venue with a ceremonial atmosphere, and everything about this farewell ceremony gives it a sense of uniqueness and dignity," stated Gabriela Dúbravková from the district of the Regional Court in Žilina.
Judges emeriti included those from the supreme, regional, and district courts across Slovakia.
