A phone call to the President of the Judicial Council was followed by an apology
The President of the Judicial Council of the Slovak Republic, Marcela Kosova, received a personal email from Lucia Štasselova from the Peace to Ukraine organization. It contained an apology for an inappropriate phone call on February 19, 2025. Lucia Štasselová stated in this email that her phone call was in no way conducive to a substantive discussion on the limits of the appropriate level of criticism of judges, her actions were impulsive and her emotions were stronger than her reason.
"I can only agree that impulsive and emotional actions are not conducive to any discussion and I am glad that Lucia Štasselova has realised this. Personally, I did not feel offended", said Marcela Kosová. "I regret that judges repeatedly have to face verbal public attacks from different sides. However, they handle such situations with dignity. The function of a judge often entails emotionally stressful situations, which they have to cope with. Therefore, the reaction of Lucia Stasselová from the Peace to Ukraine initiative shortly after the end of the February session of the Judicial Council is not what I am used to with judges", concluded Marcela Kosová.
