For the tenth time, the Faculty of Law of Comenius University hosted the international scientific conference “Bratislava Legal Forum 2024”. This year the conference focused specifically on "The Impact of European Law on National Legal Systems". The plenary session was addressed by several representatives of supreme courts, presidents of bar associations and representatives of the justice system of the V4 countries. The conference aimed to create a space and platform for discussion between the legal profession on the one hand and academics on the other. For this reason, the conference was divided into a plenary session and parallel sessions in thematic sections. In the third panel discussion, Martin Puchalla, a member of the Judicial Council of the Slovak Republic and the President of the Slovak Bar Association, made his speech. "The topic of our panel was "20 years of advocacy in the European Union". After my opening remarks, there was a discussion on the advantages or disadvantages of EU membership from the point of view of advocacy. Among the advantages that were mentioned is mainly free movement of lawyers", Martin Puchalla explained. The program, rich in expert discussions, attracted the attention of several members of the Judicial Council in addition to Marcela Kosova , the President of the Judicial Council of the Slovak Republic.  "I attended this conference for a simple reason. The issues of the relationship between the European Union and the Slovak Republic as a member are very topical at the moment. We see this also at the Judicial Council when the subject of the Judicial Council's discussion will be the Report of the European Commission. From a professional point of view, I was also interested in what other topics will be discussed at the conference", said Martin Bezák, a member of the Judicial Council. The professional discussion was conducted in eleven thematic sessions. Many of them linked theory and practice and dealt, for example, with topical issues of commercial or financial law in the context of the impact of European law on national legal systems. Discussions also dealt with the procedural principles of the right to a fair trial in administrative proceedings or the dynamic relationship between law and technology in the contemporary world. Ludmila Joanidisová, a member of the Judicial Council, also attended the Bratislava Legal Forum for the first time. "EU law is not equally well accepted in every V4 country. There were also reservations about some applications, there were also opinions that EU law needs to be applied. It was inspiring for me to hear that", says Ludmila Joanidisová, a member of the Judicial Council. The event is one of the largest interdisciplinary conferences in the Central Europe.
