Candidates for election for the position of judge of the European Court of Human Rights for the Slovak Republic have been announced
The Slovak Republic does not yet have a third candidate for the election for the position of judge at the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR).
At the public session of the Judicial Council of the Slovak Republic in June this year, two candidates were elected: Branislav Jablonka and Ondrej Laciak. However, the Judicial Council must submit a list of three candidates for the position of ECtHR judge to the Government of the Slovak Republic.
On September 4, 2025, the President of the Judicial Council of the Slovak Republic, Marcela Kosová, announced a new election to be held on December 16, 2025, at 1:00 PM, at the seat of the Judicial Council of the Slovak Republic. Authorized nominators could submit proposals for candidates for the election to the position of ECtHR judge representing the Slovak Republic until November 21, 2025.
“I am pleased that we have received proposals for two candidates for the position of judge at the ECtHR. It may seem that the process is taking a long time; however, one must not forget that the candidates must meet strict requirements set both by the legal order of the Slovak Republic and by the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms,” stated Marcela Kosová.
Member of the Judicial Council Peter Šamko nominated Katarína Roskoványi as a candidate. The Slovak Association of Judges, the President of the Judicial Council Marcela Kosová, and a member of the Judicial Council Ľuboš Kunay nominated Dana Jelinková Dudzíková as a candidate.
