Evaluation of the scientific conference on the 75th anniversary of the execution of Milada Horáková

An international scientific conference entitled ‘Milada Horáková and others – organised failure of investigative authorities, the judiciary and society as a whole, could history repeat itself?’ was organised by the Judicial Council of the Slovak Republic in cooperation with the Faculty of Law of Comenius University in Bratislava. The conference took place on 11 June 2025 at the Faculty of Law with an attendance of almost two hundred participants. "No connections or parallels with specific defendants from the period 2020 to 2023 were made at the conference, contrary to the tireless claims of some media outlets. The claim made, for example, by the daily newspaper Postoj in its article ‘Jozef Majchrák's Weekly Selection / Slovakia's unfortunate remembrance of Milada Horáková’ is completely diverted from reality and the content of the conference," said Marcela Kosová. The article also covered the conference, stating: "Therefore, with all due respect to some representatives of the distinguished legal community and politicians, there are no relevant parallels between trials such as that of Milada Horáková and current cases such as the trial of Dušan Kováčik, Peter Kažimír, and others. To claim otherwise is to distort both history and current reality for the sake of political battles. This is particularly distasteful in the case of figures such as Milada Horáková," the author asserts.‘Despite the fact that journalism is a profession that relies on the sensitive handling of words and facts, it is striking how some members of the journalistic community are able to treat information in a casual and even deliberate manner,’ concluded Marcela Kosová. The proceedings of the scientific conference and a summary of the individual contributions are available in Slovak language at this website
