Judges from the Eastern Slovak District will elect a new member of the Judicial Council
The Main Election Committee met at the seat of the Judicial Council of the Slovak Republic. The reason was its constituent meeting. The President of the Judicial Council, Marcela Kosová convened this meeting on 19 June 2025.
"Peter Farkaš, as one of the two representatives of judges from the Eastern Slovak electoral district, resigned from his position as a member of the Judicial Council after being successful in the selection procedure for the position of President of the Regional Court in Prešov. The positions of court president and member of the Judicial Council are incompatible. For this reason, I immediately announced elections for a new representative of our colleagues from Eastern Slovakia in the Judicial Council," explained Marcela Kosová.
During the inaugural meeting, the Main Election Committee elected its chair. Pavol Tomáš was elected, and then he chaired the first meeting of the committee. "This is not the first time such an election has been held, so we already know how to behave and how to interpret the law. For this reason, we more or less immediately agreed on all the tasks that were obvious. I instructed the representatives of the Eastern Slovak region on what to pay attention to and what to deliver to the Judicial Council," explained the newly elected chairman of the Main Election Committee, Pavol Tomáš.
The only candidate nominated for membership of the Judicial Council is Vladimír Monok, who has been a judge at the Regional Court in Prešov since 2010. He was nominated for the position by the Association of Judges of Slovakia and the judges of the Regional Court in Prešov.
The election will take place on 5 August this year from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. It will be held at so-called assemblies of judges in the Eastern Slovak region, which consists of the districts of the Regional Court in Košice, the Regional Court in Prešov, and the Administrative Court in Košice.
