President of the Judicial Council of the Slovak Republic meets with Public defender of Rights
Today, the President of the Judicial Council of the Slovak Republic, Marcela Kosová, welcomed the Public Defender of Rights, Róbert Dobrovodský, at the official seat of the Judicial Council of the Slovak Republic. The aim of the meeting was to discuss topics that link the Judicial Council and the Public Defender of Rights, especially the right to judicial protection. One of the main tasks of the judiciary is to uphold the protection of human rights and freedoms, and one of the main tasks of the Public Defender of Rights is to protect these rights and keep a close watch on their observance.
"We had a very open discussion with the Ombudsman and I believe that mutual cooperation will take on real contours within our competences and will be welcomed by the members of the Judicial Council," said Marcela Kosová, President of the Judicial Council of the Slovak Republic.
Both the Judicial Council and the Office of the Public Defender of Rights in Slovakia have the same long history, as both bodies were established in 2001. The Slovak Judicial Council, under the leadership of the current President, wants to expand and improve cooperation with this independent constitutional body that protects fundamental rights and freedoms.
