The Government of the Slovak Republic approved the nomination of three candidates for ECHR judge

The approval of new candidates for judge of the European Court of Human Rights was on the  today's meeting agenda of the Government of the Slovak Republic. Candidates we elected by the Judicial Council of the Slovak Republic at its September meeting last week. As a result of today´s meeting, Slovakia finally has its official candidates for the post of judge of the European Court of Human Rights. "Slovakia has had a long-standing problem with the filling of representatives for international judicial bodies. Therefore, I am very pleased that the government has approved our list of candidates, namely Daniela Ježová,  Ondrej Laciak and Radoslav Procházka. We have succeeded on the second try, as in June our first list of candidates was not approved by the government, but now we were successful," said the President of the Judicial Council of the Slovak Republic, Marcela Kosová. She presented three nominees at the government´s meeting and they were approved without a long discussion. In accordance with the adopted resolution, the government will now submit the nominees to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, which will hear the national candidates and elect one of them to the post of judge of the European Court of Human Rights. Currently the post is held by Alena Poláčková. Her term of office expires on December, 28 this year. "All three candidates were excellent in their presentation and I wish to all of them not to forget what each of them told us during their hearings," concluded the President of the Judicial Council.
