The Government of the Slovak Republic approved the nomination of three candidates for the position of ECtHR judge
The Government of the Slovak Republic included on the agenda of its first meeting in 2026, the proposal of candidates for the position of judge of the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) in respect of the Slovak Republic. This proposal of candidates was submitted in December 2025 by Marcela Kosová, President of the Judicial Council of the Slovak Republic.
Candidates Branislav Jablonka and Ondrej Laciak were elected at the June session, and Katarína Roskoványi was elected at the December session of the Judicial Council of the Slovak Republic. The Slovak Government, at its meeting on January 9, 2026, attended in person by the President of the Judicial Council, approved the nomination of the three candidates for the position of judge of the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) in respect of the Slovak Republic.
„I am pleased that the Government scheduled this item on the agenda of its very first meeting this year. The term of office of the ECtHR judge for the Slovak Republic, Alena Poláčková, ended on December 28, 2024, and she remained in office until August 31, 2025,“ stated the President of the Judicial Council of the Slovak Republic, Marcela Kosová.
Following this, the three candidates will be submitted to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, which will be preceded by a hearing before the Advisory Panel. The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe elects one judge of the ECtHR from the list of three candidates.
