On the 12th July 2023, the Judicial Council of the Slovak Republic received the opinion of the Panel established pursuant to Art. 255 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union of July 7th 2023, by which the Panel did not recommend Andrej Stec, a candidate elected by the Judicial Council of the Slovak Republic and nominated by the Government of the Slovak Republic, as a judge of the General Court of the EU. The Panel concluded that the candidate Andrej Stec, despite his many years of experience as an advisor at the General Court of the EU, did not demonstrate his ability to be a judge of this court during the hearing. Therefore on 12th July 2023, the President of the Judicial Council of the Slovak Republic, Ján Mazák, announced a new election for a candidate for judge of the General Court of the European Union, who will serve in Luxembourg for the Slovak Republic. The election will take place at the  meeting of the Judicial Council in September. Entities authorized to submit a proposal for candidates who should act for the Slovak Republic in international judicial bodies can do so until 31st August 2023.
