The President and the Vice-President of the Judicial Council met with judges and prosecutors from EU countries

On October 11th, 2023, the President of the Judicial Council of the Slovak Republic, Ján Mazák, and the Vice-President of the Judicial Council of the Slovak Republic, Ján Gandžala, received judges and prosecutors from European Union countries in the framework of the AIAKOS exchange programme organized by the Judicial Academy of the Slovak Republic in cooperation with by the European Judicial Training Network (EJTN). The aim of the program is to bring together young judges and prosecutors within the EU, to draw their attention to the European dimension of their future profession and to increase mutual understanding of different judicial cultures and systems. Among the foreign participants there were judges and prosecutors from Romania, Spain, Italy, Germany, as well as Finland and Poland. At the beginning of the discussion, the President of the Judicial Council presented the Judicial Council from the constitutional point of view - its constitutional position in the legal order of the Slovak Republic, emphasizing its main goal in terms of the constitutional definition of the Judicial Council as a body of judicial legitimacy and its role as a guarantor of judicial independence. The President of the Judicial Council answered a number of questions from the participants, primarily about the process of appointing candidates for judges, the disciplinary authority of the President of the Judicial Council and disciplinary proceedings conducted against judges, as well as the competence of the Judicial Council in reviewing the assets of judges, but also about ethical issues and the powers of the Constitutional Court in the complaints procedure of candidates against the decisions of the Judicial Council.
