International success for Slovak judge

The Judicial Council of the Slovak Republic is a long-standing member of the European Network of Councils for the Judiciary, which is a partner organisation of the European Judicial Training Network.

Lucia Horváthová, a judge at the Regional Court in Trenčín, has been successful in an extremely demanding and highly competitive multi-stage selection process for a long-term internship at the European Court of Human Rights. Her internship will begin in September of this year. The opportunity for long-term professional training directly at the ECtHR is of exceptional importance not only for gaining direct knowledge of the legal instruments applied by the human rights court but also for preserving and strengthening the independence of the judiciary and the rule of law in Slovakia.

"I assured the judge of my personal support and that of all members of the Judicial Council, which will be provided whenever necessary. Although the Judicial Council has no legal powers in this process, this does not mean that we do not care about supporting successful judges in such important programmes, which we also unreservedly support at an informal level," said Marcela Kosová.

The success of the Slovak judge was also noted by the President of the European Network of Councils for the Judiciary, Madeleine Mathieu, who sent a personal letter to the President of the Judicial Council.
