President of the Judicial Council Marcela Kosová demands a public apology from Beáta Jurík of the PS party
Marcela Kosová considers the statements made by representatives of the political party Progressive Slovakia against her, and in particular those made by MP Beáta Jurík at the press conference held on 5 March 2026 under the title: „Fico´s Diabolical Plan to disable the European Public Prosecutor´s Office“, to be an unacceptable and gross political attack based on lies.
Marcela Kosová has been part of the judiciary since 1995. She has been a member of the Judicial Council since 2017, when she was elected by more than fifty percent of the judges participating in the election. In the 2022 election to the Judicial Council, she was elected by more than seventy percent of participating judges. No politician has ever voted for her or elected her to the Judicial Council.
She was elected as a candidate for membership of the Selection Panel for the European Prosecutor selection procedure in 2018 by the Judicial Council, not by any politician or any government.
Moreover, Progressive Slovakia held its press conference on the very day when the Judicial Council of the Slovak Republic, under the leadership of Marcela Kosová, was received for the first time in its history at the highest protocol level by the President of the Court of Justice of the European Union in Luxembourg.
If Ms. Jurík claims that Slovak prosecutors are not interested in applying because they do not believe that they can succeed „with a selection panel such as this“, of which Marcela Kosová is also a member, the following question arises: Do politicians from Progressive Slovakia have direct links to, or political influence over, specific prosecutors? Which of them provided opposition MP Jurík with the „information“ supposedly indicating that prosecutors are discouraged also by the composition of the Selection Panel? Incidentally, that panel includes three prosecutors.
“If Ms. Jurík had looked at even the most basic document – namely, the published minutes of the selection procedure held as early as June 2025 – she would have found that all decisions of the Selection Panel were adopted unanimously, that is, by 5 votes to 0,” stressed the President of the Judicial Council.
The defamatory statements made by MP Beáta Jurík interfere not only with the rights of the President of the Judicial Council but also with the independence of the judiciary, of which Marcela Kosová is the highest representative. Her statements not only lack any basis in reality, but it is also clear that they pursue a single aim: Beáta Jurík´s personal political gain ahead of the election for the post of Vice-Chair of Progressive Slovakia, scheduled to take place on 28 March 2026.
“I publicly call on MP Beáta Jurík to apologize to me publicly by 25 March 2026. Otherwise, I will be forced to defend myself through legal action,“ said Marcela Kosová.
