Judicial Council´s proposals partially succeeded at government´s meeting
At today's meeting, the Government of the Slovak Republic discussed the proposals of candidates of the Judicial Council of the Slovak Republic for judges who should serve for the Slovak Republic in international judicial bodies. Marcela Kosová, the President of the Judicial Council of the Slovak Republic, submitted the proposals to the Government for discussion on the basis of the resolutions of the Judicial Council of the Slovak Republic from its June meeting.
The proposal of the Judicial Council to fill the post of judge of the General Court of the European Union was approved at the government´s meeting and Juraj Schwarcz became a candidate for judge of the General Court of the European Union. He is a candidate who has been a judge of the General Court of the European Union since 2009.
The Judicial Council's proposals for another important judicial post at the European Court of Human Rights, based in Strasbourg, did not receive support at today's cabinet meeting. The judges of this court are elected by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe for each contracting party from a list of three proposed candidates. The three candidates elected by the Judicial Council at its June meeting - Marcela Dolníková Žabková, Ondrej Laciak and Radoslav Procházka - were not approved by the government.
The mandate of Alena Poláčková, the current judge for the Slovak Republic at the European Court of Human Rights, expires on 28 December 2024.
