The Judicial Council of the Slovak Republic adopted a resolution on verbal attacks against judges at its August session.

 

 

RESOLUTION

OF THE JUDICIAL COUNCIL OF THE SLOVAK REPUBLIC

the 12th of August 2026

 

on the Statement of the Judicial Council of the Slovak Republic on verbal attacks against judges

 

The Judicial Council of the Slovak Republic

 

  1.  

consistently reiterates that it fully respects the right to criticise judicial decisions and individual judges. Such criticism is a natural part of public debate in a democratic society. However, it must be factual, well-founded, and conducted with due respect for the principles of judicial independence and civility in public discourse.

categorically rejects unfounded allegations that judges are politically motivated or that their decisions are driven by ulterior motives.

  1.  

strongly condemns the denigration of individuals and incitement to hatred, dehumanisation and negative sentiment towards judges.
