The Judicial Council of the Slovak republic elected its new President
At the fifth session of the Judicial Council of the Slovak Republic this year, the second item on the officially approved agenda was the election of the President of the Judicial Council of the Slovak Republic. The only candidate was Marcela Kosová, a long-standing member of this constitutional body of judicial legitimacy. She was nominated for the post by six member judges. The reasons were, among others, mainly her long experience in the judiciary, high professional credit and organisational skills. The election included a hearing of the candidate, which preceded the actual voting. In the end, Marcela Kosová succeeded in the election. She was supported by 13 members of the Judicial Council, with one vote abstained and one vote against. She thus replaced Ján Mazák, who was dismissed from the post of President at the April meeting of the Judicial Council. Marcela Kosová is a judge of the Regional Court in Bratislava and is part of the Criminal Law Collegium. She was elected President of the Judicial Council with immediate effect. "What I would like to do is to visit judges in the regions as soon as possible, because the judiciary is about judges. So if you don't communicate with them then it cannot work," new President of the Judicial Council explained one of her first steps.
