An apology came after four years
Mária Kolíková, at the time Minister of Justice, stated on November 4, 2021, on the Radio Expres show “Braňo Závodský Live”, that corrupt judges oppose the new judicial map because the form of corruption will become more complicated. Dana Jelinková Dudziková, who filed a lawsuit against Mária Kolíková for the statements made in the mentioned show, stood up for all judges. Patrik Števík and Ayše Pružinec joined the lawsuit seeking protection of personal rights and judicial freedom of expression.
After four years, the Ministry of Justice of the Slovak Republic apologized for the words of Mária Kolíková, who, as a government representative, created the impression that some of her ideological opponents among judges and representatives of the judiciary were associated with corrupt practices.
"Mária Kolíková has long been collecting political points for herself and for the political party she is part of at any given time. While this is typical for many politicians, she repeatedly drags judges and the Judicial Council into political battles, which is definitely not okay.", stated the President of the Judicial Council, Marcela Kosová.
Marcela Kosová has previously reacted to Mária Kolíková’s statements, calling them undignified for any politician, let alone a former Minister of Justice. Most recently, in March of this year, she reacted to what she deemed an “absolutely unacceptable attack on the constitutional body of judicial legitimacy” by the former Minister of Justice.
“The judicial power is one of the three branches of power in the state. While it has a more difficult position because it does not use populism or illegitimate shortcuts to raise its profile, that does not mean there are no legal tools and procedures through which it will defend its constitutional position,” concluded Marcela Kosová.
