The Judicial Council of the Slovak Republic has elected members of the disciplinary chambers
The Judicial Council of the Slovak Republic, at its first session in 2026, elected 26 members of the disciplinary chambers from among judges.
The President of the Judicial Council, Marcela Kosová, announced the election for members of the disciplinary chambers on 10 November 2025, in response to amendments to the Act on the Judicial Council, the Act on Judges and Lay Judges, the Act on Courts, and the Disciplinary Code of the Supreme Administrative Court.
„I very much appreciate that the candidates were nominated by the judicial councils, the college of presidents of courts councils, as well as the Slovak Association of Judges, as a professional organization. The members of the disciplinary chambers comprise judges from district courts, municipal courts, regional courts, the Administrative Court, and the Supreme Court. This is a clear signal that judges are not careless about public trust in the judiciary and that they have taken on this challenge responsibly, “ said Marcela Kosová.
By the set deadline of December 15, 2025, 28 nominations were submitted for 27 positions on the disciplinary chambers. One candidate subsequently withdrew her consent.
“The reinstatement of two-tier disciplinary proceedings is a significant step, which also responds to concerns raised by several European organizations dealing with justice and the rule of law, “ concluded the President of the Judicial Council.
